POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA

The Music Therapy Trust’s Music Therapy Academy will be running its third year of the “Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Music Therapy” commencing October 2011 in Delhi, India. This is India’s first comprehensive training program in the field of Clinical Music Therapy. It will run as a part-time course over two years. A board certified Clinical Music Therapist from America will be the Course Tutor.

This course is about "Clinical" Music Therapy.” The curriculum of the training program involves detailed studies of Music Therapy theories, approaches and methods, emphasising practical clinical training supported by the Tutor and other professionals. The course provides detailed knowledge of the different clinical Music Therapy interventions and methods used in clinical settings.

Additionally outside lecturers will provide learning in areas including child psychology, psychotherapy, counselling, psychiatry, other Arts’ Therapies, Family Therapy. Students will also conduct supervised sessions students at several placements as part of their training at hospitals, NGOs and care homes as arranged by The Music Therapy Trust in Delhi.

After completion of this Course, students will be trained to work as qualified clinical music therapists. They will be well prepared and equipped to support and contribute to the well being of children, adults and families in numerous community care and treatment centres.

The process of admission involves an interview and audition. This will take place at our Music Therapy centre at THE MUSIC THERAPY TRUST, C/O Action for Autism, Pocket 7-8 Jasola Vihar New Delhi.

Applicants must have a professional standard of musicianship (instrumental and/or vocal) and good communication skills in spoken & written English. Relevant experience of working with people having a wide range of developmental difficulties, medical illnesses, social issues and mental health problems will be an added advantage.

PGD students may apply to The Music Therapy Trust for scholarships, available for those students with proven financial hardship.
