The Music Therapy Trust

The Music Therapy Trust (TMTT) is an Indian registered charity established in 2005 to introduce music therapy to India. Music Therapy has changed the lives of people the world over, especially those with difficult acute or chronic life challenges such as autism spectrum disorders, medical illnesses, post traumatic stress and physical or neurological impairments. Over the last 5 years, TMTT has successfully introduced clinical music therapy in India to help children and adults facing trauma, loss, a wide range of psycho emotional, social and medical difficulties and/or who are marginalised by poverty.

TMTT has established The Music Therapy Academy at the Music Therapy Centre of excellence in New Delhi where it provides music therapy directly to clients, and also trains Indian students to be professional clinical music therapists so that skills can be spread, and music therapy can be established as a fully recognised clinical profession throughout India, benefiting thousands of people.

The Trust is also working in partnership with many local non-governmental organisations throughout India.

What We Offer

  • We provide community-based music therapy to locally disadvantaged children, adults and families.
  • We train and support Indian students to become qualified music therapists through a post-graduate Diploma in Music Therapy.
  • We hold workshops for parents, carers and health and education professionals.
  • We give talks and presentations to schools, hospitals and clinics.
  • We promote awareness of music therapy throughout India.

Long Term Sustainability and Benefits
This program is set up to have long-term benefits by training Indian music therapists and helping them to initiate, develop and promote music therapy throughout India, thereby reaching thousands of children, adults and families with difficult life challenges and issues.

The establishment of music therapy in India not only brings huge improvements to the quality of life of marginalized children and adults, but to their families who may be prevented from working and trapped in a cycle of poverty leading to stress and sometimes crime. Wider society is also benefiting from the availability of treatment for mental health issues and from the raising of awareness of the issues surrounding treatment for children and young people with critical needs.
